Methamphetamine (Meth) is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. Crystal methamphetamine is a form of the drug that looks like glass fragments or shiny, bluish-white rocks. It is chemically similar to amphetamine, a drug used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy, a sleep disorder.
Methamphetamine affects the central nervous system as a stimulant that people use to induce many different effects. Meth increases the release of dopamine in the brain and, as such, acts as a potent antidepressant and causes high levels of euphoria, which can be a driver of addiction to this substance. In addition to euphoria, Meth use causes the following: • increased wakefulness and physical activity • insomnia • talkativeness • decreased appetite • racing heart • sweating • increased blood pressure and body temperature 1. It can also cause other symptoms, including anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and psychosis. 2. It is a synthetic, easily dissolved, odorless, crystalline powder or crystal “rock” that can be ingested orally, smoked, inhaled/ snorted, or injected. Drugs may contain deadly levels of Methamphetamine and you wouldn’t be able to see it, taste it, or smell it. It is nearly impossible to tell if drugs have been laced with Meth. When someone produces or uses illegal methamphetamine in homes, sheds, garages, trailers, vehicles and businesses—places where other people live, sleep, eat, and work—these areas are left contaminated with potentially dangerous levels of toxic chemicals. Methamphetamine is a dangerous drug that is often manufactured in improvised labs, which can be hazardous to people in the vicinity. Signs to look for when entering a property contaminated or used as a meth lab or meth users: include lack of fire detectors, blue or yellow discoloration in walls, sinks, and showers, peculiar odor, ventilation holes in strange areas like closets or open attic access in addition when entering a contaminated area you may experience itching and burning sensations. Meth is made of highly toxic chemicals and can also cause short-term and long-term health issues, including nose and throat irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, breathing difficulties, migraines, burns, skin irritation, problems with liver and kidneys, and even cancer. If you suspect the presence of meth in your home, it is important to hire trained professionals for cleanup. Conduct thorough research before renting or buying a new home and do not jump to conclusions based on appearance alone. Methamphetamine should be taken seriously, and precautions should be taken to preserve the health of yourself and others. Meth is made up of highly toxic chemicals, including acetone, phosphine, and pseudoephedrine. These chemicals can cause short-term as well as long-term health issues. Many people want to know does meth cause cancer, and the answer is – yes, it can cause cancer. However, the most susceptible demographic for these health issues are infants and children. Adults usually tend to cope with potential issues of meth exposure much easier than infants and children. In fact, infants who are exposed to extended periods of time have a high chance of developing life-long health issues. The methamphetamine concentrations on surfaces does not degrade over time. Methamphetamine residues is a relatively “sticky” synthetic material that deposits from aerosols and vapors directly onto interior surfaces and will remain there for extended periods of time. As a result, the property will need to be decontaminated before people can continue to use it. |
